About me

About me

Hi I am Roger Cook, and this is my first ever personal website. Here you will learn about me, what I’m good at, bad at, love, hate, do, don’t do... etc! Have a squiz at my passions below of which there will be further details of elsewhere on this site.

Passions

Family and friends. I’m the oldest offspring of 2 and currently 38 years young. Fantastic Mam, Dad and sister whom I’m blessed with. No kids of my own. Yet!
Within my years to date, I have amassed umpteen fabulous friends that I keep in contact with on a regular basis...good times J from pre-school and where I have lived, to employment and back again!

Sport

Well Newcastle United Football Club first and foremost!
I proudly have held a season ticket which I have had now for several years at St. James’ Park. This will be an ongoing blog!
Other than football, I do like to watch a variety of others. E.g. (in no particular order!) Snooker, Tennis (a bit), Motor sports..bla bla bla..not rugby though!

Music

Something I have held an interest in forever. For this I describe my tastes as ‘random’, because they are that! Some say varied but I like to use random!
I can go back to when about 6/7 (at a guess) wearing my Dad’s HUGE earphones listening to the Beach Boys on his record system! Not knowing that there would have been a link from that to later work* (as an aerodynamicist dealing with vibration!). And how things change; oh how they change! But  I don’t dislike the Beach Boys! Now for example, mixed bag of diverse electronic (as I like to refer to it), classical, Motown, bit of jazz, rap/hip-hop, dnb....♫

Food

I love it all! No I’m not a fatty, just love it, the eating of and the making of. Favourite/s? Hard call as I love all, but I have and have had, a certain palate for CURRY since began with a Corma/Korma/Kurma (you decide!) aged, umm, 11/12? Now however I love it all and especially the HOT stuff!
When I begin to cook the first ingredients on my list, bench, in the pan are garlic, onions, chillies. Mmmmm. Can and have eaten curry or similar for breakfast, lunch, tea, supper!

Work

Work is something I like to believe that I have done all my life; not without change. That is up for argument; is it? MS had its opinions on that… Since that interruption I have looked and look and look for graft! Not without trying has given me an unplanned CV! Unashamed as it is all as honest as can be. Left the professional footballer off though. Phew. However. My background lies VERY much in engineering – a change you see!

MS

That’s Multiple Sclerosis, which I’m err, blessed with. I have been suffering with this condition for a canny while now, but I manage it best I can and it thankfully does NOT stop me ‘functioning’ fairly damn well (up for debate, I know!). Not that there aren’t negatives, which of course there are many. But I try not to dwell on the/any negatives in life.
This led to me volunteering locally with the MSSociety which I thoroughly enjoy as a general committee member with the Newcastle & Gateshead branch.

Other crack

Crack is what Geordies know ‘craic’ as. Not a typo! Sarcasm. HUMOUR is a big part of who I am. Have to laugh! Laughing, smiling, good times :-D Aye, I may have what may be seen as, as a dry sense of humour. I cater for all, or at least try to (I’ll laugh irrespective! Apologies in advance!)
  • Pi (as in 3.14!).
  • Films - like many types, 2016 loving the Horror genre!

Bobby!

My cat was named Bobby. He was my 1st ever cat having owned dogs in the past, just being that bit older and working, can’t spend the time with a canine pet that they deserve, whereby the feline equivalent are that much more independent, but aye, still loved the little fella.

F1 Aerodynamics in Schools

Being a STEM Ambassador, I keep check with what STEM enrichment activities are planned that I feel I could support with my experience. I saw an “ F1 Aerodynamics ” related request and it tickled my buds somewhat! So I vested my interest via the formal portal/method to/with STEM and this was responded to. What was the challenge? It is a global competition given as per: “ The Competition - What's It All About? You are a Formula One™ team commissioned to design, construct and race the fastest Formula One Car of the Future, powered by compressed air cylinders. ” The first of the activities was in a middle school in Whitley Bay, to simply share my experience (having been an Aerodynamicist) with the Year 8 kids taking part in the F1 challenge. I enjoyed helping them with what they were doing at that part of their challenge.  BBC! Wow. I would have loved to have had that opportunity at that age. Unbelievable! Showing my age, a bit?! (my middle school had a

MS blog October 2023

MS blog October 2023 25/9/23 This week of this, bad sleep, fatigue, affecting speech - #Dysphasia - and fatigue linked problems like forgetting to do certain things, eg. Download Toon ticket properly! Tired.                                                 04/10/23 (Wednesday) Again bad sleeps, bad #fatigue. Here's the thing. More notable 'cognitive overthinking' in that I am not on the money. Yet, was fine for the #MS #Zoom on Monday night. And starting to unintentionally upset Catherine, and therefore me too.   FB post:   #Tysabri At time of writing, I am pretty bloody next-level-tired. Or feeling fatigued, in the #MS world. Those who know that; know. Yes, I AM saying that #MS #Fatigue IS different to ‘just’ being tired. Who am I to say that? Someone who has lived with the twat (#MultipleSclerosis) for maybe 26 years now. Maybe more. I don’t know. So, #Tysabri. Well I started with this amazing #DMD (disease modifying drug) over 13 years ago, and it “made me a new man”

Ocrevus

Ocrevus . Notes 1 The infusion was completed at 1pm, and I was asked to wait for 15 minutes after the cannula had been removed. I was told to take it easy for the rest of the day, that'd I'd be tired. Body not used to the new drug, nor my mind, given that I had been anxious about #Ocrevus day. Ok then, I'll accept a lazy day. Was planning a curry takeaway anyway! I am tired. A few nights of bad / poor sleep. Ocrevus. Notes 2 Second infusion (second half dose) done by 1ish. Then again asked to rest for the day. Yes, as per, I was tired. #Anxiety due to an earlier taxi booking (for 07:20), with the small alarm fear! And also a few wake-ups during the night. Usual, but! Prepared with laptop, phone (obviously), headphones, sarnie, bottle of water, and chargers in case. And a BBCi downloaded film. The same as my first unknown Ocrevus trip. Slower start than last infusion, but after the paracetamols and antihistamine, the weak steroid infusion did its thing for half an hour; wi
